Sustainability as a Statement: Karim Temimi at Leo Markt
In 2020, a dress by Karim Temimi was presented at Leo Markt that was made entirely from sustainable and recycled materials. Created as part of a collaboration, the piece embodied a form of fashion that seeks not only to appeal aesthetically but also to make a statement.
In an industry still characterized by overproduction, short cycles, and high resource consumption, this project provided a deliberate counterpoint. The dress did not treat sustainability as a decorative narrative, but as a design decision. The materials used were not concealed, but rather transformed into a new, independent context—precise, well-thought-out, and with a clear design language.
This is precisely where the relevance of the work lay. Temimi demonstrated that recycled and sustainable materials do not equate to compromise. Rather, the result was a design that combined responsibility with creative ambition without resorting to symbolism or exaggeration.
The collaboration added depth to the project by highlighting that forward-thinking fashion often emerges where creative perspectives converge.
The exhibition at Leo Markt brought this way of thinking to life. The dress stood not merely for a single design, but for an attitude within fashion: to produce more consciously, to reevaluate existing resources, and to understand design as part of a greater responsibility.
Karim Temimi did not formulate a loud manifesto, but rather a clear statement—one that made an impact through its materiality, its presence, and its consistency.
